National VP of Sales

Only Natural Pet (www.onlynaturalpet.com), the leading online retailer of natural pet supplies, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sales Manager to work on the launch and roll-out of a new natural pet product brand into the wholesale market, as well as to manage sales of an existing natural pet product brand in wholesale.  Both brands are part of a new wholesale business unit within Only Natural Pet. 

We are an entrepreneurial company located in Boulder, CO with a very dedicated team.  The VP of Sales will be responsible for growing the wholesale business through management of all channels of trade.  The VP will be responsible for hiring, managing and building out a sales team in tandem with sales growth and channel adoption.  Position will report to the SVP of Business Development.  Position is located in Boulder, CO, but working remote may be a possibility for the right candidate.  Relocation assistance is not available.

We are seeking someone who is energetic, pro-active, passionate, team-oriented and entrepreneurial who has the following skills & experience:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Achieve sales targets - responsible for all sales and promotional activity of our products, including strategy, planning and execution.  Build annual strategic sales plans.
  • Collect and analyze sales data to improve and understand overall sales performance. Make monthly sales reports analyzing performance and benchmarking against plan and competition.  Monitor the marketplace and competitive market activity, recommending strategic responses as needed.
  • Develop and manage trade marketing/promotion and pricing strategies by accounts, regions and channel, managing within company profit targets.  Assure smooth promotional execution and vendor compliance.
  • Lead ongoing forecasting and promotional budgeting.
  • Act as primary corporate contact representing the company and the brands to national and key accounts.  Negotiate special terms, conditions and retail support.  Establish great relationships with retail executives and strategic decision makers within their organizations.
  • Manage and set direction for broker network to meet sales targets, ROI goals, and distribution priorities.
  • Build and manage team of regional sales managers and channel specific sales managers, including recruiting, training, and ongoing development.
  • Heads up sales activities at trade shows.
  • Member of the senior executive team and participates in senior management tasks, projects and discussions on a weekly basis. 
  • Utilize and leverage syndicated data such as IRI, Nielsen’s, or SPINS.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in a senior sales role with a minimum of 10 years of CPG sales experience calling on retail accounts and customer headquarters.
  • Senior management experience at a natural consumer products or a consumable pet products company.
  • Must have experience selling to Natural Grocery and/or Pet Specialty.  Also having experience selling to Mainstream Grocery is preferred.
  • Hands-on leader who has an entrepreneurial spirit and can work and easily adapt to a fast-growing and ever-changing environment.
  • Proficient with Windows and Office environment, as well as have strong Excel PowerPoint and Word skills. 

Expected travel time is 30-40%.  Competitive salary and benefits package with a potential for equity participation.
