What Size Bed Does Your Dog Need?
The best way to determine what size bed your dog needs is to measure them from head to butt while they are laying in their favorite sleeping position, then add about seven inches. The more space they take up while sleeping, the bigger size bed you'll need.
When in doubt between two sizes, always choose the larger bed - regardless of dog bed type. No one likes their tootsie hanging off the bed!
The below chart is a good starting point for you to estimate what size bed your pup needs.
| Size | Sample Breeds |
| S - 26" | Bichon Frise, Italian Greyhound, Maltese, Pekinese, Pomeranian, Toy Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Dachshund, most cat |
| M - 34" | Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, Springer Spaniel, Terrier, Main Coon Cat |
| L - 42" | Akita, Basset Hound, Boxer, Bulldog, Chow Chow, Collie, Dalmatian, Golden Retriever, Greyhound, Labrador Retriever, Pointer, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Siberian Husky, Standard Poodle |

Why Do Dogs Need a Bed?
Dogs need a bed for the same reason humans do. It provides support, warmth, and a sense of security for the dog. It is a place they can call their own. Dog's have a natural burrowing instinct, and like a place that allows them to snuggle in. This is why dogs often tear holes in the low quality overstuffed pillow beds, to create a hole or burrow for themselves. Why not just provide them with a burrowing space that they don't need to adjust through tamping, chewing and scratching?
Why Buy a Quality Bed?
A good quality bed will incorporate higher quality filler material to support your dog. It should provides your dog musculoskeletal support for their bones and joints, and keep them comfortable. For older or ill dogs this is especially important. Often low quality beds lack the loft and softness needed by your dog for a comfortable snooze, not to mention they are usually destroyed more easily. The last thing you want your arthritic or old dog doing is jumping off a bed or couch and risk injuring themselves.
It also provides them with insulation from both the heat of summer and the cold of winter. A dog bed also gives your pup a place where they can curl up and relax in the security of their own space.
Having a designated spot for your pup to sleep also contains shedding and dander by keeping it in one central spot, on the bed. With a fully washable bed, you can easily rid the allergy offenders by merely washing the bed versus having to clean all the furniture and bed linens in the house. Of course, laying a binky over you covers if your dog insists on getting on your bed also helps with fur and dander control.
How Can I Wash My Bella Bed?
Bella Beds are machine washable and it's probably best to use an oversized front load washing machine. Dry your Bella Bed in a dryer using medium to low heat.
