My 15 year-old cat had begun to urinate on the rug in the basement where she stays at night (she stays outside during the day). I purchased some of this litter and within 4 days she began to use the litter box again and is no longer wetting on the rug. After much research and wrestling a persian to get the clumping litter off her "bikini line" I found this litter and could not be happier. The fine sand texture makes it comfortable on the paws and easier to switch than other large piece silica brands. Do you know there is more clay cat litter in landfills than disposable diapers...this litter biodegrades in 30 days. Silica is a natural mineral but unlike natural litters made from corn , wheat or newspaper, it does not promote or breed bacteria. One 8lb bag lasts one cat about 6-8 weeks, just remove solid waste and be sure to stir the litter daily especially if your cats like to tinkle in the same spot in the box. I have 2 litter boxes, one Booda Dome and one medium size box and can split a bag between the 2 for about 6 weeks to give you an idea on use up rate. I have 3 cats (the two short haired are 3 yrs old and my long haired is 11) and while I love them, I hated the fine layer of perfumed dust that clay-based litter left everywhere. In my quest, I found Senior Cat litter. Not only do I have very little dust to contend with, but the litter performs so well that I am able to have only one litterbox for all 3 cats (I sift out the waste twice a day). I don't have to dump the litter for about two weeks, which is when I start to see some dust when scooping out waste and the urine clumps because the green dehydrating crystals are gone. You don't have to use as much - a depth of about 2 inches is good, so the bag of litter lasts longer, which sets off the cost. A booklet in each bag I have purchased contains a coupon for your next purchase. And buying this litter is not only healthier for you and your cat, but it's better for the environment.

I have one old frail cat, and I can go for two or three weeks with one bag of this litter without touching it. Then I dump the whole thing into the trash, and open a new one. It's pricey, but worth the lack of hassle and contact with the vile contents of the litter box.

We have a household of 4 indoor cats including one huge Maine Coone. (I know that's mispelled but the system won't let me spell it right) All male. They have always used the litter box nicely but with that many cats it can sometimes get stinky and messy from all the tracking outside the box.
We actually saw this on a demo at a big pet store and were convinced we should try it. I am very glad we did. This stuff really does hold the odor down and is very easy to use. Lasts longer than I though it would too. It isn't trackless but it does track less than my old litter did and I had tried several brands before. It is kind of pricey but I think worth the price. My Maine has also suffered previously from Urinary tract problems and if this can keep that from coming back I would be very happy. Since we just started using it 10 days ago I can't address that issue but I love it so far.

I suggest mixing this with regular litter, as by itself, there is a strong urine smell (I am using it with multiple cats). This way you can at least cut down on the dust and it makes scooping a bit easier.

It's a light green color. It crystalizes the urine and doesn't clump.
