Comments about Ruff Wear Ruffwear Load Up Vehicle Restraint Harness:

I have been through it, trying to find a safe, crash tested harness for my dogs. They are as important as the rest of my family so why wouldn't I? I happy when this item finally came out as it fit my demands.

Only thing I do not like about it, is the cost and color options. Looking at their other harnesses it seems to me the materials needed for this harness do not out weigh some of their other far cheaper harnesses.

I came here looking for a back up at a cheaper price than usual. That's when I came upon the first review and felt I should leave my experience so no other dog gets hurt.

First...

This harness is NOT meant to be used for hiking or even as a walking harness. You can use it while on road trips for potty breaks but this should only be used in the car. Something Ruffwear makes clear themselves.

A proper walking harness will fit differently than a harness meant to endure car crashes and car rides. Also, if you use it for those things, it's fit and thus effectiveness would be affected (I.E. hiking with it!). They this does not provide the protections of a walking harness either.

This harness covers more of the body then necessary for walking/hiking and could get hot fast. It's light and comfortable for in car use but not for exercise.

You MUST measure your dog as the diagram shows you. If you are in between sizes like I was for one of my dogs, they recommend you take the smaller size. Which I did and it worked for me.

You also need to fit it on your dog and they give great detailed instruction not only the site but in video form. It was all pretty easy.

I highly suggest you take it off IN the car. Unless you are on a road trip and your just going for a potty break, keep it in the car. It takes mere seconds to remove and put on. I toss their walking harnesses in the seat pockets when we get in and just put them on when we get out leaving the Car harnesses in the car.

So far this has been the only crash tested harness I trust. I do not follow the test results back in 2013 by the group calling themselves Center for Pet Safety etc.... they were backed by Subaru who had financial connections with the harness company who they claimed was the ONLY harness that passed their tests. Even putting it up for sale on the organizations website which I find blatently biased.

Even so, I tried it anyway and it was a big fat failure which cost me over $100 per dog. The Ruffwear harness (and I am quoting directly from the testing page...) are Dynamically tested at MGA Research Corp (a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contracted test facility) under the conditions outlined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213

This harness was developed in 2014, after CPS did their controversial testing. You can view Ruffwear's crash tests on their site. And I think their videos are on YouTube too... I've watched so many they all kind of glob together but I believe you can find them there.

Thanks to everyone who chooses to get a safe car harness no matter what brand or model as you are the ones who really care about your pets. I really can't believe those who allow their pets to ride on their laps as they drive or are put behind a cage wall in the back where they can be ejected out of the back windows or smash into the gate. Not just taking those few moments to put on a proper harness to possibly save their life is inexcusable.

Comments about Ruff Wear Ruffwear Load Up Vehicle Restraint Harness:

I use the harness to take my puppy on walks and hiking trips.
My puppy exscaped from the harness while hiking luckly we got it back on her.
she still exscaped from it no matter how tight you fixed it .
She exscaped from it and could have gotten run over if I had not gotten her in the house.
I would not recomened it to any pet owner who loves their pet and the bottem thing that holds the leach came loose from the fabrick.
