The smell was so overpowering with this product that I never used it. I wouldn't have been able to use it on my dog, because I would have been sneezing all day. It might be just me, I might be allergic to it.

I don't know about long-term effectiveness, but when I sprayed this directly on a flea, it immediately stopped moving and died. I think it would work best to prevent dogs from picking up pests on walks or to kill fleas that are on a dog. It is pretty greasy and will stain white fur, so that is a minor downside.

I use this on two cats and a mini dachshund. the only warning that needs to be given people is that with this product MORE is NOT Better.. use it sparingly. 1-2 sprays will easily cover a small dog. I went and got a fly spray mitt for horses ( its just fake sheep skin with a plastic liner).. I spray it 2 times and then rub the mitt over both the cats and the dog. I tried it on the ears, legs and bellys of my horses as well. Its doing a bang up job of keeping the horse flys off of them and the deer flys.

I bought this product even with the so-so reviews and am very disappointed. The odor is VERY strong, and not particularly bad, but very strong and long lasting. I sprayed this stuff on my dogs (and didn't even saturate as instructed) 24 hours ago and the smell still lingers. This spray also left grease marks wherever I sprayed it. It has made any and all dirt and pollen stick to the places where it was sprayed.

Sentry Natural Defense Spray is very effective. I highly recommend it, but have to stress one point. Before using it on your pet, you have to do a small patch test first to check for any sensitivities or reactions. I used a cotton swab dipped in the spray then wiped a VERY tiny patch (not much larger than the tip of the swab) of fur on each of my Chihuahuas. I did that prior to using the product, and one of my two Chihuahuas did have a reaction to the product, the other did not. I highly recommend this product. It works very well, but you have to do a small patch test first. Only Natural Pet Store also recommends doing a patch test as well.

I use this product twice a week on my Chihuahua (along with the Only Natural Garlic pills). I apply it using a cottonball, covering the same areas mentioned in the directions. She has been flea free for months, not one flea or flea egg. The smell is quite noticeable, but it is pleasant; I really like it. My dog doesn't mind the smell at all. Also, due to the smell of the spray, that is another reason to do a small patch test on your pet as well, that way you will know if it is to your liking or not without dousing your entire pet's body with it.

So for pets, who aren't sensitive to it, Sentry Natural Defense Spray is definitely one of the best out there.

I think if you were to spray a few times on a kitty's back every couple of weeks before she goes out to romp in the grass it could be a great product.

HOWEVER, I bought this as a flee treatment and now my little girl cant keep her food down, is drowsy and sad, and has a temperature (hot ears). We're on our way to the vet in an hour so hopefully she will be feeling better soon. I think I'll request a new flee treatment even one not so 'natural' as she is certainly not feeling very 'natural' right now.

I don't know how from 8"-12" and without saturating, you could possibly make sure it gets down to her skin, but DO NO SATURATE!!!

I was using Sergeant's Nature's Guardian until I no longer could find it in the retail stores or online. Same ingredient's, works wonderful for all of my dogs, large and small.

The first time I used this product, I used the powder form on my puppies and it was amazing. They were too young for the chemical products so I thought I'd try it and it worked well, without harming the puppies.

I'd like to address the negative reviews: Like all products, this product must be used in moderation. Even though the ingredients are all natural, they're still very potent and should be used carefully and with caution. Especially when you use it for the first time. You definitely can't douse your pet without first testing it on a small area first.

I've worked as a vet tech and would recommend this product over the chemical ones any day.

My cat is a maine coon. That means long haired.Spraying her all over was not an option so I soaked a scrunchie with the product and put it around her neck like a collar. Fleas are gone. It's been 3 weeks and no fleas.Slight skin irritation from concentration in neck and head area so I'll use less next time.
