It is a precursor of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), including hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate, an essential component of the cartilage matrix. Considerable animal research indicates glucosamine sulfate's effectiveness in maintaining joint health.
Green-lipped mussels, or Perna mussels, are rich in all the major classes of GAGs, including chondroitin-4 – and – 6-sulfates, as well as amino acids, polypeptides, and nucleic acids (RNA and DNA).
DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA) is a component of the catecholamine neurotransmitter cascade, leading to increased levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine, which can in turn increase levels of endorphins and enkephalins.
