Thorne Research Gastriplex gastrointestinal/digestive support for small animals addresses such issues as indiscretion in eating (like from a garbage can), poor quality pet foods, and stress can all contribute to digestive upset in our companion animals.

  • Support a healthy GI tract
  • Decrease gut permeability to minimize absorption of allergenic proteins
  • Provide healthy probiotics to support digestion

Intolerance to certain foods is commonly seen in veterinary practice. While avoiding feeding the foods an animal is intolerant to can support a healthy GI tract, treating the cause is also essential. Increased gut permeability that allows for absorption of larger protein fragments is often at the root of the problem. By improving gut integrity and decreasing the gut's permeability, the animal's sensitivity to foods can be greatly reduced.

Gastriplex is a comprehensive intestinal support product that combines nutrients for mucosal support and gut integrity with probiotics and nutrients that support the body's normal inflammatory response.

Glutamine plays a key role in maintaining mucosal cell integrity and gut barrier function. Glutamine also enhances the gut's immune function, in part by increasing the production of secretory immunoglobulin a (sIgA), an antibody that promotes immunity. N-acetyl D-glucosamine (NAG) also helps maintain normal intestinal permeability. It enhances mucus production and is involved in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans, the building blocks of connective tissue.

Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast that decreases intestinal permeability. Like glutamine, this beneficial yeast exerts its protective effect on the GI tract by increasing the production of sIgA. Lactobacillus sporogenes is a safe, effective probiotic that survives in stomach acid and produces L(+) lactic acid in the intestine. Probiotics are successfully used to help maintain a healthy GI tract.

Slippery elm, a demulcent and emollient, provides soothing protection for the mucus membranes of the intestinal tract. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) supports a healthy intestinal lining by helping to increase blood flow and maintain normal muscle relaxation.

Quercetin, an abundant dietary flavonoid, has significant positive action in the intestinal tract. Gastriplex contains Thorne Research's patented quercetin chalcone, which, because it's water-soluble, makes it a highly bioavailable form of quercetin.

Comments about Thorne Research Gastriplex Dog & Cat Supplement:

I have been giving this to my 12 year old Cardigan Welsh Corgi to help deal with her Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and I think this has really helped. She is less bloated than she used to be, and she gets loose stools almost never now. She seems to feel less pain in her tummy, because she used to be tired and bloated and have tummy aches (she would wince when pressure was applied to her stomach). Now thats not a problem. This medicine is a little expensive BUT ITS WORTH IT! The bottle comes with 180 capsules, which is alot! It lasts for like many months. My last bottle lasted 5 months. I bought another bottle, and would recommend this to any pet owners who have animals that have ANY gastrointestinal issues. I think it is best used along with a good probiotic and digestive enzymes supplement.

I use this for my 14yr old diabetic cat who had a scary bout of pancreatitis. He takes 1 pill every day. We found this a much more beneficial product than the anything the vet recommended and now after seeing our results, the vet recommends this!

Comments about Thorne Research Gastriplex Dog & Cat Supplement:

We have a 15 year old Schnauzer who has not always had gastrointestinal problems, but once she developed them, our vet couldn't seem to find an effective treatment. It was difficult to watch our sweet companion suffer with chronic diarrhea without being able to find her some relief. We found a food that lessened the occurrences, but it was not a cure as she still suffered pretty regular bouts of very loose stool. When I noted that some of the successful reviews I read were from geriatric dog owners, I decided to try Gastriplex. The results, in our dog's case, have been totally successful. No former treatment showed any effectiveness, but since I began putting a capsule into her morning meal, (that's all it takes for her) she has had normal bowel movements, daily. It has given her about 3 months of relief, so far, from almost 2 years of worsening problems. We are so thankful for the development of this wonderful product! I recommend it often, even to our vet...

Although this product has a good ingredient list, it had no effect for my IBD dog. He has since responded positively to high grade human probiotics and digestive enzymes. Worth a try, but for some dogs may not be enough.

Comments about Thorne Research Gastriplex Dog & Cat Supplement:

I have a basset hound with EXTREME digestive issues. We have been on just about every medication, steriod, and probiotic pill on the market. Not to mention, we have been on about 10 different foods. We have finally found a food that works, and have combined Gastroplex with that. We only noticed a little bit of difference with these pills, but for us anything that helps a little, we are thrilled with. The one thing we did notice was that Sunny didn't have any negative side effects with these pills. We normally have to introduce her very, very slowly, but these must be high quality becuase we saw no negative side effects at all. Different dogs will of course have different reactions. Good Luck!

Comments about Thorne Research Gastriplex Dog & Cat Supplement:

This is a product almost every pet owner should have on hand even if they don't use daily. We give this to our two dogs if going to the dog park, dog beach etc.for added immune protection. We first discovered this product when our newly adopted animal had blood and mucus in his stool. He was diagnosed with irritable bowel etc. etc and the vet recommended this product. What a difference! Yes we did change his food but we haven't had any blood in his stool since and we have had him on this product for almost 3 years. When we adopted our second dog we just automatically put her on it at a maintenance dose. And again thorne already has a great reputation in the human health profession so I don't have to worry about quality of the ingredients they use.
