Why carrageenan

By Monicar

from Kernersville, NC, United States

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

My dog loves this food and I bought it because it's grain free and because it's not chicken. Somehow, I missed carrageenan on the label and I won't be feeding it to him anymore because it causes inflammation and gastrointestinal upset and my boxer already seems to have a sensitive stomach. Maybe this is why...limited ingredient will now be my choice.

She loves the Tripe!

By GSD Adopter

from VA

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

She loves the Tripe! I wish it was made without Carrageenan seaweed as the degraded Carrageenan is potentially cancer - causing, depending on research results. I would rather avoid it all together. Use something else as a thickener. " There are a few distinct types of carrageenan that differ in their chemical properties, but the most important distinction is between degraded carrageenan and undegraded carrageenan. From a chemical standpoint, the difference between these two types is in their molecular weight. From a practical standpoint, undegraded carrageenan is approved for use in food products, while degraded carrageenan is not. (2) Although both substances are often referred to as 'carrageenan,' they have very different chemical properties and should really be treated as separate compounds. Degraded carrageenan is also called 'poligeenan,' which is how I will refer to it in the rest of this article to avoid any confusion. " http://chriskresser.com/harmful-or-harmless-carrageenan/

One of the favorites

By Jim26

from Arlington, TX, United States

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

We have two Morkies and one Yorkie, and they are all somewhat picky eaters. However, this is one of heir favorites. I mix it with Merrick kibble. I can always count on them to eat this. I'm disappointed that my local Petcos appear to have stopped carrying it. I was afraid that Merrick stopped making it. I'll just have to find another source. Great product!

Grain Free and Chicken Free Dog loves this!

By Morgrena

from Statham, GA, United States

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

We have a 4 yr old Cocker Spaniel with major food allergies. After many tests and money spent it was determined that Bodogins had allergies to grains and chicken. This meant spending more money on more expensive food that Bo wouldn't touch or would nibble at then never finish. On a whim we tried Merrick Grain Free Pork and a grain free chicken free dry food. Not only did Bodogins devour the food he came up asking for more! It's been a week now and we are noticing changes in his demeanor, no more itchy scratchy, more playful, less gas and no food left in his bowl after feedings. We will be trying more items from Merrick's Grain Free line very soon!

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

Our 4 legged baby has severe food allergies - after trying 15 plus different brands, types, dry vs wet dog foods, this is THE ONE and the only one that she not only had no allergy issues with, but she loves the taste almost as if she was eating from the table. Thank you for helping us help her enjoy life better.

I tried a switch to this "pate" food and my dog abhors it! She would rather starve than eat this dog food. I'll reorder the non-pate food she likes. BIG mistake on mommy's part. Sorry girl.

        Very Satisfied Customer!

        By Jazz s Mom

        from Florida, United States

Comments about Merrick Pet Care Merrick Grain Free Canned Dog Food:

My Miniature Dachshund has food allergies which in turn, reeks havoc on his digestion and also manifests as dandruff. The Vet put him on Hills Science Diet to see if that helped, but it only helped for a few weeks. I did research and found Merrick. I loved the grain free ingredients, and decided to give it a try. First, I tried the sweet potato and beef dry food. He seemed to be doing well, so I upped the ante and bought the beef canned also. Well, I did not know that he was sensitive to beef, chicken, and dairy. He finished the beef dry, but I still have a whole case, minus two cans of the canned. Because I really, really like the Merrick brand, I tried my dog with the sweet potato and duck. Voila!! Jackpot!! He loves it and is doing so well, I'm afraid to change. I would however, like to add the canned potato and duck formula to his feeding regimin, but when looking at the ingredients, there is dried egg product and chicken flavor. That would send my dog running to the bushes quick, fast and in a hurry! Can't do that to him. So, I would like to suggest that Merrick, omit the dairy and chicken and make the wet ingredients closer to the dry. Bottom line - Would I recommend this dog food? A resounding YES!!
