It's good... wish my cats liked it bette
By MJ the writerVerified Reviewer from near Dallas Tx on 11/10/2008
Pros:
All Natural, Easy To Digest, Improves Coat
Describe Yourself:
Long-time Pet Owner

I have been wanting to switch to natural, and organic food. But price has been my major constraint. While this is still a bit expensive for my budget it is something I can manage.

The ease of use is great, compared to fixing raw or something similar.

The new kitten will eat it more than the older, but she still wants kibble. The older one was slow to try it. But I still can not get him to switch. But the kibble helps with my budget, so I guess it's okay if they continue to eat both.

I rescue ferals, strays, unwanted, and shelter cats. At anytime I have at least a dozen cats I care for and find loving homes for. After rescueing approximately 25 cats from an apartment hoarding situation, I was really strapped for cash. Their health care, spaying/neuter, vaccinations, and all other expenses put me in the hole. I will only feed Honest Kitchen to my animals, and my rescues are no different. I contacted Honest Kitchen, let them know of my situation, and asked if I could be put on a payment plan. I was expecting to have to pay for the food, but they sent me 16 lbs of this food for free! One of the elderly rescue cats has no teeth and she does wonderfully on Prowl. Honest Kitchen's food is great and their company is wonderfully compassionate. We are so very thankful.

Our cats didn't tolerate this food very well on it's own, so we mixed it 50/50 with a homemade diet and then they loved it.

My Kitties Did Not Like This
By Love4PetsVerified Purchaser from Los Angeles on 9/12/2008
Pros:
All Natural, Easy To Digest
Cons:
Doesn't Like It, Messy

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was hoping my 2 cats would like this -- they didn't. I first used it as a standalone feed; they snubbed it, eating only because they had to. I later tried to mix it with kibble and they responded a little better, but still weren't excited at mealtimes. I also found the powder formula messy.

We try to discourage my cat from jumping on the kitchen counters but nothing will keep him off when I make up Prowl. He knows the container I keep it in and immediately jumps next to the sink and tries to sneak a taste. I have never been able to wait the 5-10 minutes recommended because he insists that he eat right away, even if it is a bit soupy.

I've been feeding my 5 indoor cats raw food along with high quality organic processed foods for years with great success. They absolutely love the Prowl and I like how easy it is to store and prepare. Sometimes I'll rehydrate it and then mix it with canned food or just give them the Prowl by itself. They see me take the box out of the fridge and freak out! It brings out the "beast" in them...but in a good way. I am/we are very happy with this product!

I cannot say enough good things about this product! I just ordered two so I won't worry I will run out. I have just transitioned to raw for all 5 of my cats. I feed raw Murray's nonhormone chicken and since my husband is a deep sea fisherman, we feed them raw fish as well as the Prairie Variety beef medallions. I add the Prowl to the raw chicken to get their taste buds going. I also serve alone with distilled water. Very important to leave on counter to soak water for at least 10 minutes. I also throw away any uneaten Prowl after 30 or so minutes. You must treat this product for what it is - dehydrated raw. It has alot of other benefits - the 25% necessary fruits, vegs and supplements that must be in any raw diet. But I do supplement with Wysong AddLife powder just to make sure my cats get enough calcium/magnesium because that is so important. Taurine also is gained through the addition of any raw diet. I went to a holistic vet and she just loved the Prowl. Just her positive impressions of the product encouraged me to know I am on the right track with diet in my household. You will really love this product!!

Helping my cat with IBD, Thank you!
By Sphynx Cat's LairVerified Purchaser from Anaheim, CA on 7/11/2008

Cons:

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My cat has IBD and was vomiting a great deal as of late. My neighbor told me about The Honest Kitchen products and that it helped her dog with similar problems. I always felt I was getting a healthy food for, Luna, but when I read all about this product and the supplements for digestive problems. I ordered it and she has been doing better. It just took her awhile to get used to eating something that wasn't crunchy kibble. I also called the company for feeding suggestions as written on the box and they were so helpful, and said if she didn't like it they didn't want me to be stuck with 4lbs. of food I couldn't use. I didn't even ask that question. I just wanted to get her to eat it.
It made me feel better that they care about a consumer.

At age 2, my cat became very sick for no apparent reason. After spending $300 at the vets so he could tell me "nothing was wrong," I decided to look elsewhere for a solution and came across this product. I believe that taking her off commercial cat food and putting her on a holistic diet (along with some herbal remedies from ONPS) probably saved her life. After a week she was back to her old (young) self. Although it seems expensive up front, a 4 lb bag lasts 2+ months and evens out to much less than $1 per day. I definitely recommend this product.

Cat loves it. More carbs than other food
By blackvioletVerified Purchaser from Lancaster, CA on 6/11/2008

Cons:
Messy
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

My cat LOVES this as much as the Solid Gold Blended Tuna, which was her previous favorite. The only downside to this food is that it has a lot of starch/carbs in it. I think that adding some extra raw meat to it, or mixing another food with it will bring up the nutritional quality. I bought her some Nature's variety Frozen Raw Lamb (just to try a different kind of meat), and she won't eat it alone. If I mix it with Prowl, she scarfs it down.

A Tried & True Product!
By ChristinaVerified Purchaser from Boca Raton, FL on 4/7/2008
Pros:

Cons:
A bit pricey
Best Uses:
Active Cats, Everyday, For all cats, Indoor Cats, Kittens, Older Cats, Special Meals
Describe Yourself:

I add bottled water to this dehydrated raw product. I let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes and then stir it and serve it. My cats never get tired of it and if gets too dry, I add water or Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner (has lots of juice) to it. But I really don't have to do this that often because my 5 cats will eat this food usually within 30 minutes. I would not recommend letting it set out longer than that, because it is a raw product. I am very satisfied with this food, and my cats have never had upset stomachs or diarhea with it even when I first started giving it to them. It is a bit pricey, but is the best travel product and so very good for all cats!! I am very glad to have found this product...

I recently added in Prowl to my 2 cats diets. They will not eat it alone- I have to add in a meat topper or a few kibbles. But when I do, they lick the bowl clean! I like the fact that I am adding in much needed moisture to their diet and that it contains NO sugar, salt, grains, or anything nasty. My cats have perfect body condition and have shiney coats! I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that I always have to add something to it for them to eat it.

Having read so much about the benefits of raw feeding I want to get my cats onto a raw diet and have tried MANY products in hopes of finding just one that at least some of my cats will eat.Having read others experiences with cat not liking at first but in time accepting it I am hopeful and will try again, it really would be so easy and much healthier than commercial cat foods, but can only be of benefit if the cat will eat it!

As part of my total cat feeding program, I highly recommend Prowl to anyone who is looking for a convenient, wholesome meal. I do add Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner right into the Prowl. I also add a small amount of Prowl with water to mashed raw chicken medallions so I can begin to incorporate more raw into my cats diets. It is imperative that you add water to the Prowl! If not, you could really hurt your cats. That fact was not as clearly stated on packaging, as I feel is necessary in this case. Prowl is wonderful!

This is a great food for my kitten. Being a brand new cat owner (and being pet-less for 18 years), I have been trying out many, many different foods from kibble to can (wet) to natural. This one, without doubt, is THE BEST!! My kitten loves this, it is healthy and natural, it’s easy to prepare, and it's even a pretty good bargain in the natural food arena. My little guy will be eating this for a long time to come. (It has a great smell... I've almost been tempted to take a taste myself!)
