New Formulation Unproven
By Longtime ConsumerVerified Purchaser from Marietta, GA on 4/11/2008

Original formulation was wonderful. However, Halo is not currently able to provide a detailed analysis of the new formula, such as the calories in each can. As the new product is in a smaller (and more expensive) can, there is no simple way to know how to adjust portion sizes for the new formula.

My dog is 13 and since I've changed to this food her coat is shinnier, she's more active. I use it alone or mixed with dry food. I think she'd eat it 3 times a day if I'd let her.

I use this by itself or mixed with ground dry food (My dog can't eat hard food) that I then add some water to give the consistency of canned food. My dog simply loves it...either way.
I especially like seeing real veggies in the mix and chuncks of meat.
My sister said it smelled good enough to eat ourselves.
I really haven't found anything I don't like about this food.

I tried a few of the canned foods on this site. I was disappointed in another brand, that gave my 3.5 chihuahua mix stomach problems. It also said 'not fit for human consumption' and upon opening the can, I had to agree. So when I opened the Spot's Stew, I was expecting much of the same and was very pleasantly surprised. All 3 dogs, 12lb Silky mix, 7.5lb chihuahua mix, and 3.5lb chihuahua mix loved it and had no stomach upsets. When I opened the can it was like something a human would be able to consume with out question or concern. Although the price is a bit higher than the other brand it really seems worth it. I have not used it long enough to determine what other benefits it will give to my dogs.

A dog food our dogs finally will eat.
By Dog DivaVerified Purchaser from Mesquite, NV on 8/22/2007
Pros:
Dog Likes It, Easy To Digest, Even smells good, Good Value, Improves Coat, Nutritional, Tasty
Best Uses:
Larger Dogs, Older Dogs, Smaller Dogs
Describe Yourself:
Multiple Dog Owner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Our dogs, all three, are spoiled and would never eat any dog food I put in front of them. If I mixed the dog food with some people food, they would eat all the people food and leave the dog food. How they did that I will never know. But with Spot's I mix with dry dog food and other foods and they love it and clean their plates. They even eat off a tablecloth on the floor and know when it's dinnertime and sit in the kitchen and wait for me to hurry up and put their bowls down.

This food looks like chicken stew people eat. My older dog eats everything and the younger one picks out the peas and beans just like a kid. There are whole bits of veggies, noodles and chicken. It actually smells good.

My puppy has been depressed since my older dog passed away a few weeks ago. She has been snubbing every type of food I have tried until I fed her Spots Stew. She likes both flavors. It appears to agree with her stomach as well. This was the first type of food she ate immediately, without walking away first.

I've been really worried because my dog stopped eating. She hates dry food, and she suddenly stopped eating the canned food that she liked before. I saw Spots Stew at the store yesterday and decided to try it. I mixed it will some dry food, and she could not get enough of it. I was able to feed her a large bowl of dry food with the Spots Stew mixed in. It really brightened my day to see her eating again. This morning she had tons of energy, and actually howled 3 times when she woke up.

We started giving this to our dog when the holistic vet said it was his last hope. Along with his medications, this food was responsible for him living an additional year and a half after we were told to put him down by the reg vet.
Now all my dogs only eat this food and they are all doing excellent on it. Even our "old man" of 15 is still doing great!

It looked good, but my cat disagreed
By Ann the AccountantVerified Purchaser from Dayton, OH on 5/9/2007
Pros:
Great ingriedients
Cons:
Cat wouldn't even touch, Doesn't Like It
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I would definitely recommend that anyone try it to see if their pet likes it - it looked so much better than what my cats normally eat - it almost looked good enough for me to eat!

However, my cats looked at me like I was insane and backed away from it.

Best Uses:

My dog is my furkid. She is 14 years young, a cocker spaniel, and her good health is always foremost. A finicky eater no more. She has been on Halo Pets Spot's Stew for 2 years now. She loves the taste, the scent, waits for me to cook it in the microwave for her. Best of all, her puppy energy is back and her vet amazed. No pet food recall in this all natural diet. Thank you! It is pricey, but I feel pay now or pay later at the vet....[...]

Great food.
By Pug LadyVerified Purchaser from LaGrange, GA on 2/2/2007
Pros:
Dogs really love it
Cons:
Price
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've tried many different brands with my dogs. They will eat almost anything, but clearly like Spot's Stew better than anything else that I've fed them. I have one with allergies, and one with urinary problems, so have to be careful with their diet. It is expensive, but well worth it!

The Best I've Found!
By Scarlett's Mom!Verified Purchaser from Farmington Hills, Michigan on 10/21/2006
Pros:
High Quality

My Papillon is so picky about her food as well as having a sensitive digestive system. She eats Spot"s Stew everyday, and I supplement with your Karma in the morning in small amounts. I have tried other organic brands but she will have diahrrea for several days. Spot's Stew clears that up quickly. This is high grade food good enough for human consumption. It looks like real stew and smells good. Human grade. Wouldn't feed my baby anything less!

Halo's Spots Stew for dogs
By scVerified Purchaser from Waterford, MI on 9/14/2006
Pros:
High Quality
Cons:
Expensive
Best Uses:
I mix with dry food

"The Ultimate" dog food for my dog and all of his friends. They LOVE the flavor. They recognize the name "Spots Stew" and get excited when they hear it. They do not look up from their bowls until they are empty. I love the all natural ingredients, quality, texture, smell, etc. Looks like "people" food. It is one of the most expensive canned dog foods which limits the number of times I can afford to buy it for my dog.
