My 14 year old cat developed a severe thyroid condition and we tried the prescription medication from the vet. Unfortunately the medication caused her major liver problems, so we took her off of it. We thought we would have to have the iodine radiation procedure (which costs around $1,300), but we tried this herbal treatment first. We had to increase the dose slightly to get the desired effect, but she is completely back to normal now. And using a garlic press to crush the pills and mix with a little canned food, it's very easy to give her. I was skeptical at first, but I'm a true believer in this stuff now. I highly recommend trying it if your cat has a thyroid condition and it's not much more expensive than the prescription medication the vet gave me.

My eldest cat is 19 years old and has hyper-thyroid for at least 3 years now. She's dropped from 16 lbs to 8 lbs in the past 3 years. I started her on Tapazole about 2 years ago but she has still lost weight and was lacking in her normal grooming. Since I started her on "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" used in conjunction with her Tapazole prescription and some anti-oxidant supplement she has become a lot more active and gaining weight. She's gained about 1 lb since I started using "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" about 6-8 weeks ago. She's a lot happier and looks so much better. A recent visit to the vet for blood work showed normal results across the board. A month earlier her blood work showed many levels to be way out of range. I add anti-oxidant supplement tabs and urinary support supplement tabs crushed and mixed with her food. Every day she gets 10 Mg of her Tapazole prescription, one in the morning and one in the evening along with 2 pills of "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" in the evening. Sometimes I alternate and give only 5Mg of Tapazole and 4 pills "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming". I watch the color of her stool to make sure it's not too light or too dark. I find that it gets dark when I give 4 pills "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" in conjunction with Tapazole for extended periods of time. If I reduce the Tapazole to 5Mg her stool will eventually start to look a little light. My preference is 10Mg Tapazole and 2 pills "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" every day along with the Anti-Oxidant and Urinary support. Without the "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" she will not gain weight. It's definitely made a huge difference. If you're not using Tapazole or any other prescriptiom meds then four pills "Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming" as recommended would be the way to go.

My Baby was diagnosed last summer with hyperthyroidism and I still can't afford the best treatment (RIT) yet so in the meantime, I wanted to have her start meds. I'd much rather try a natural, homeopathic remedy than have her ingest manmade, synthetic drugs! So, she's halfway through her (first?) packet of these pills which I give her one a day to start and so far, no problems but they seem to work. She's not as grumpy and skittish as she was and she's back to drinking regular doses of water. She would go through a whole bowl a day before! The best way to administer the pills is in pill pockets which she LOVES so much that when she sees or hears me with the bag, she comes running and trying to take the pocket from me before it's ready! Hopefully, when she visits the vet next, she'll prove a marked improvement if not a cure for that awful disorder!!

To all the cat owners, the easy way to give your cat a pill, is put it on your finger, and cover with hairball paste, or vitamin paste in the malt flavor, or fish flavor. My cat just licks it right of my finger.
My cat is on the Tapazole, I hate to remove him from it, can this be used in addition to the tapazole?

My 18 year old cat lost a lot of weight and was diagnosed as having hyper thyroid. The pharms the vet prescribed turned him into a zombie - he could barely get off the bed. The other alternative was to irradiate his thyroid, but he's so old I hated to put him through that. My cat has been on these herbs for over two months now. He has gained a pound and is calm, has a healthy looking coat, and seems relaxed and comfortable. I'm very happy with the product.

The little round pills are a bit of a hassle. I put them in a mortar, cover with a little parchment paper so they don't escape, and smash them up. It's easy to finish up by grinding to a fine powder with the pestle. Works great. I do up a weeks worth at a time and save in little plastic herb bags purchased at a local health food store.

I found that my baby had hyperthyroidism, so the doctor prescribed tapazole, and the dose was then increased. Prior to the dosing of tapazole he was a playful kitty, but after dosing he became zombie like, it decreased his thyroid results, but his quality of life was none existent, he was not Arries anymore and started losing weight, he seemed sick all the time. He later stopped eating the hidden meds in the pill pockets, so I kind of let that go. He then became Arries again, but still has a problem eating enough to put back the weight he lost. I'm still worried about his hyperthyroidism. I found thyroid calming, and he was eating it with his pill pockets at first, then he discovered that it was there, so he would not eat the pill. I tried crushing it and putting it in his food, but it has a strong odor for his delicate nose. He stopped eating the pill pockets. I tried again to feed him pill pockets without the med, so he'd eat it. Today he eat one with the meds in it, so he has not had enough of the thyroid calming to give any good information about the effects of it.

I would like to see smaller tablets, so I can put smaller tablets hidden in two pill pockets, it may go down easier in two pill pockets, instead of one with a BIG pill.

My 14 year old cat has been diagnosed with hyper thyroid. I am using the Thyroid Calming by Natures Herbs because I do not want my cat taking the conventional medicine for this condition.

I have only used this product for two weeks but it seems to be doing my cat some good. So far, my cat seems to have a better kept coat and is calmer. I think she might be gaining some weight as well which is really good. (she is so thin from this condition) I will know more as I continue to use the product but so far so good. I will have her blood tested in another 4 weeks so we will see if there is any improvement in the thyroid.

My 17 year old cat was diagnosed with an elevated thyroid last year. She had also been in kidney failure for over a year. I used this product full strength for about 3 months and then cut back after 3 months. Easy to administer with pill pockets. At her six month check up thyroid levels had dropped considerably and were normal. Vet recommended that I stop using thyroid herbs and six months later we had her blood levels checked again and her thyroid is still normal! Her kidney levels continue to improve as well - using chinese herbs, raw food, and flower essences.

I was using a vet prescribed medicine, but it just made him throw up the pill, and he wasn't getting any better. Now, he's back to his old mischievous self, gaining weight, and his hair is glossy again. It's easy to administer usually. Just pop it in, and hold his favorite hairball remedy in front of him. He can't resist it. Thanks.

My 11 year old cat tried methamazole after being diagnosed with the hyper-thyroid problem, and it caused her to scratch till she bled. The vet told me the scratching wasn't from the medicine, but I trusted my gut and took her off it. We didn't want to have the surgery because she is also having unexplained seizures. Doing my research I found this, and meanwhile she dropped down to 6 pounds. She has been taking this medicine for 4 weeks now and has already gained 2 pounds! She's calmer too, and it's such a relief to see her doing so MUCH better! Only thing is this week she started having a problem with some loose stools. Not sure if it is related. I look forward to the long term results. I wasn't able to give them to her on their own, but I get these pill pocket treats from my vet and she eats them with no problems. THANK YOU!!!

Only Natural Pet Store Response:We carry the popular pill pockets, and as this reviewer points out, they can really help with administering remedies to discriminating pets. USA-made Pill Pockets Pill Delivery Treats are available for cats (Item #169005) and for dogs (Item #169001).

The pills are difficult to give, so I decided to crush them and put into the wet food. Because they are round balls, crushing them was hard since they kept escaping from the bowl. I was told to use a sturdy garlic press to crush them first, then put into my bowl to crush. BRILLIANT!!!

I am just starting this medication-lasting about 23 days, so I'm not sold just yet about the results. I'll keep an update when I buy my next batch.

It was difficult and time consuming to crush up the tablets so I could get them into the cat's food (how else would you get these hard little round balls down your cat's throat?
I didn't see any difference. She still coughs and chokes and pukes because of her elevated T4 level - hyperthyroidism. I gave the recommended dosage and used the whole package.

Only Natural Pet Store Response:The effectiveness of Nature's Herbs for Pets Thyroid Calming Formula, as with ANY herbal or natural remedy, varies with the health of the animal. Also, an animal being fed a high-quality diet with adequate vitamins and enzymes will respond better than an animal on a poor quality diet. Each animal’s system needs support in healing from within.

Administering remedies can be a special challenge with cats. Be sure to check out our Newsletter article, Administering Remedies to Your Companion (Mar 2007) in our Newsletter Archives, which suggests using the popular "pill pockets" or our pill crusher to help get the remedy administered more easily.

Our 19 year old British Shorthair had lost a lot of weight and we were afraid she would pass away in a few more days. Since we are consumers of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture for ourselves, I searched online for an herbal remedy for old cats with hyperthyroidism, and found these Thyroid Calming Pills. (We don't have a veterinary acupuncturist in our town). The description looked well worth a try, considering the stressful and dangerous western medical treatment options for this condition. The first morning after her first dose, she was already stronger and happier, and now three weeks later, she has gained back weight and looks great. We are very happy with this medicine.

My cat was experiencing weight loss and vomiting. Doctor said her thyroid condidtion did not require medication for the time being. This medication has eliminated most of the symptons caused by her thyroid.

My 14 year old cat was diagnosed with hyper-thryroidism. He had the classic symptoms of throwing up, being way too active for his age, and drinking a lot of water. My vet gave me pills(methimazole/tapazole) to give him which turned him into a zombie. I reduced the dosage to 1/4 pill twice daily and he started to throw up again. I ordered this product prior to starting the tapazole treatment so I had it on hand and decided to try it. It's been three weeks and my cat has not thrown up except for the occasioinal hairball, His disposition is much calmer but not zombie-like. He also stopped tearing his fur out!

This supplement has really helped our 17-yr old cat regain some weight and he definately feels better. At his age, I really didn't want any drastic measures taken, and because the pills are small, it's easy to disguise the pills in food without having the hassle of trying to stick it in his mouth twice per day. I highly recommend this.

My cat of 14 years has suffered from hyperthyroidism and the associated symptoms of excessive thirst, vomiting, insatiable appetite and weight loss. After giving up on traditional thyroid medicine (that just made her drowzy) I found this product. After about 3 weeks of dosage with the herbs, she has gained a little weight, doesn't drink as much water and her appetite is back to normal. I crush two pills into her food in the a.m. and crush one into her food in the evening. The difference in her personality is quite amazing.

Pros:
Effective, Long-Lasting, No Side Effects
Best Uses:

My older cat had thyroid problems which the Vet treated with expensive medication, which made her like a zombie, plus blood tests every 6 to 12 weeks which stressed out the cat. I didn't want to subject her to this stress and tried this wonderful product. While it says 2 or more per day, she gets one per day and has put on weight, is not hungry all the time and is once again her sweet, ornery self!
