My 2 maltese love these fish stix as much as they love their flossies. It's a little harder for them to hold, but they manage. They last longer than flossies because they're harder to chew.
Although these have a VERY STRONG fish odor, my 2.5 year old Boston Terrier and 6 month old French Bulldog go crazy for these!
Last much longer than a bully stick!
This is the first treat I have found that lasts long enough to do any good...it cleans my wolfhounds teeth and therefore makes a healthier happier hound
I started my 10 year old husky on this for her dental and joint health. She usually isn't interested in chewing, but she has always loved anything with fish in it, so I gave it a try. I've never seen her get so excited about a treat and her teeth have never looked better. I've seen mixed reactions to the taste and texture from other smaller dogs, but the ones that like it, LOVE it. My only complaint is that they are expensive, so I have to ration them out.
The dog chewed on this one time & did not like the texture. She does have anything to do with it. It must smell tasty though, because one of our cats carries it around although he does not try to chew on it either. This product has an almost 'marble' type texture.
I have 2 young Poodle/Shih Tzus - they like them a lot. Not as much as Merk's beef tendons, but probably because they really have to get it soggy to pull off pieces. They do like it a lot, the challenge, and have never had an issue with digestibility. The boys is 2 years old & I only allow him all natural foods which he now is spoiled on. The girl is a very new addition, 4 months old & teething. She was eating the wood furniture, the walls literally, so giving her that makes her happy. In desperation, I tried Nylon which the boy will not touch, she was ok with, but definitely loves the fish more.
Great treat. I work at an independent pet supply store and was given a sample to test out and was amazed at how long it lasted! My puppy demolishes bully sticks. While bully sticks are still her favorite, these smell less and last longer.
Advice to those whose dogs try it but dont finish it off: let them have it and they can pick it up whenever they feel like chewing!
On the description of the product it says that it is for dogs as well as for cats. That's why I bought it. However my cats just sniffed it a lot. Did not touch it.
My German Shepherd demolished the fish stix in 10 minutes and looked around for seconds. It's a healthy treat for him. I wish the stix came in a large size that would last longer.
I can't really say much about these fish stix because both my dogs have shown absolutely no interest whatsoever.
I don't know the reason. Not enough smell/taste? Too tough for satisfying chewing?
The stix feel rock-hard. I was a bit concerned to even give them to my small dogs. The vigorous chewer had a brief go and must've tasted a bit; but obviously that convinced him that there was nothing of interest there for him.
I'm a bit mystified, because they adore fish snacks. I'm afraid my lot voted with paws down.
Additionally, I would have serious concerns about dental safety for very small breeds.
I can't see a problem for larger dogs with adequate jaw power and tough teeth though.
