I've been giving my Cat Renal Essentials and UT Strength 2x a day for 3 years. There have been no side effects what so ever, and she loves them - chasing them across the floor like candy. I think she intuitively knows that they help with her sensitive kidneys and unrinary tract.
In September my 14 yr old siamese was getting sick alot so I got bood work done and she had a blood creatine of 2.9 and BUN of 38 which meant renal failure. I immediatly researched this and put her on Renal Essentials for cats, Golden Book tea Pills and Salmon Oil also K/D low protein food. Every day we did this. New blood work done 9 months later showed a creatine of 2.0 and BUN of 30 and great labs!!!! Thanks so much!
This product is keeping Scooter alive and well. It is easily administered twice daily when crushed up and added to his tuna. There is no reluctance on his part to eat the mixture of this and his vitamin supplement as well.
She actually ate the vitamin in one of your pill pockets
When I received these tablets I about had a heart attack thinking the same thing as has been mentioned by all of you ~ how do I get this down Weasel???? After getting over my shock, & deciding I'd crush them thinking what a pain-in-the[*] that was going to be, I decided on a whim to offer them to her. Well low & behold, she just ate them. I was dumbfounded, elated, & amazed as I was expecting a much different reaction. I think she associated them with dry cat food - my best guess. She has continued to eat them with no hassles daily (x2) & I feel blessed after reading all your comments. She is very old (in her 20's) & has some teeth missing but seems to enjoy & manage them. I also give her cranberry extract crushed up in yogurt each morning prior to her tablets & protein. She once had the tablets without food & they came back up so I don't do that anymore. I can only assume they are restoring & helping her renal system as so far I've not seen signs of a reoccuring bladder/crystals or whatever they deem is the problem. Last year she was on meds 3 times & I didn't want to continue that. I hadn't taken her to the vet for many years as their was no reason to. I also give her the Vitamin/Minerals which she eats the same way. I think she's doing well & now that we've gotten on a more healthy protein diet, the liter box is much better too.Ok enough of this [@]
My 16 yr old in CRF wont touch it...even when crushed and hidden in wet food.
My 18 month old eats it...but he eats anything and doesnt need it...go figure. Pills are HUGE, and I am ont about to force the pill down his throat. He doesnt need that trama. I can get him to eat one every once in a while but I have wasted more than he has eatten.
Scooter loves this product. I crush it with the pill crusher I bought from Only Natural and mix it with his tuna twice a day. This was approved by Scooter's vet as a replacement for Renagen, recently taken off the market by Thorn Research who stopped making their product. I panicked until I found this product. I would highly recommend it for any cat owners who have cats with kidney problems and compromised immune systems.
My cat was diagnosed with chronic renal failure after eating the recalled cat food back in March 07. Vet put her on low protein cat food, Ringers Solution treatments, and Renal Essentials. He told me not to expect too much. Well since then kidney function has improved and she is still with us.
Biggest downfall is the size of the pills - absolutely ridiculous to expect a cat to get that down. If I crush them in food she won't eat the food. I break the pill in half and put half in her mouth. I have to keep my hand under her jaw and not let it open too wide or the pill falls out. This forces her to chew. Then we do the other half - every morning and every night. She is so tuned in to this that she actually tries to hide when she hears me break the pill in half !! Would be very helpful if pills were smaller.
Marked improvement with this product for my diabetic cat. Can easily be ground between two spoons and added to wet food.
I have been treating my elderly cat for renal failure recently. After doing research, I started giving her 1/2 the dose (she is 4 1/2 pounds ) daily. Since then, her blood work shows that her kidney and liver function has actually improved. My holistic vet also looked over the ingredients and approves. She has looked over other products I have purchased in good faith and pointed out obvious ingredients (that a company making these things, and making claims of considerable knowledge, you might think) that would be harmful to a cat, so, truly be careful with a second opinion.
I put my cat on a daily dose of Vetri-Science Renal Essentials and Vetri-Science UT Strength for cats after a severe urinary tract inflammation. The supplements in addition to changing her to a homemade raw diet have improved her health and happiness markedly.
Our finickly elderly cat eats it when it's crushed and sprinkled on his food, apparently it doesn't taste bad to him.
These pills are fine if your cat is, let's say, a tiger. However, these pills are way too big for a domestic cat. I had to grind them with a mortar and pestle - twice a day no less - to add it to food. Perhaps the manufacturer, who markets a formula for dogs under the same name, is selling the same pill for both cats and dogs, just using a different label. If so, shame on them. A cat could choke attempting to swallow anything this size. My vet actually recommended this product to me based soley on it ingredients. When I showed her the pills, she was as perlexed as I was that any manufacurer would deem the size of this pill as appropiate for cats.
