Veterinary Board of Advisors
Only Natural Pet Store maintains a veterinary board of advisors whose members
advise the company in areas of product selection, product development, and the
creation of content for our website. The members of this board include:
Dr. Steve Sanderlin
Dr. Steve Sanderlin practices at
Boulders Natural Animal, in Boulder, Colorado. He promotes wellness in
companion animals using an integrative approach, combining alternative,
complementary, and conventional therapies.
Dr. Sanderlin graduated from Texas A&M University where he received Bachelor
of Science degrees in both Biomedicine and Veterinary Science in 1991 and 1992.
He ultimately earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1996. He has
worked in several small animal practices in the Denver and Boulder area before
joining the team at Boulders Natural Animal, where his experience in
conventional medicine and surgery are complimented by his skills in herbal
medicine, holistic therapies, nutraceuticals, and nutritional counseling.
Dr. Sanderlin has been interested and involved in the natural health field even
before attending Veterinary School. He is currently applying the knowledge and
experience he has gained from experienced holistic practitioners in his daily
practice. He enjoys his time off by spending it with his wife Nancy, his son
Ryan, their 3 dogs, Keeley, Belle, Cody, and their cat, Wynslow. He also enjoys
telemark and alpine skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and
camping.
Dr. Jean Hofve
Dr. Hofve earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University
in Fort Collins in 1994. She is an accredited veterinarian, licensed in
Colorado. She practiced holistic and conventional medicine in two feline-only
clinics in Denver. She is now retired from active practice and mainly does
freelance writing. She is the former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the
American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
In addition to her conventional veterinary training, Dr. Hofve has studied
veterinary homeopathy, Reiki (Master), and holistic medicine. She has a strong
interest in flower, animal, gem, and etheric essences, and founded
Spirit Essence Flower Essence Therapy for Animals in 1995 (still the
only line of essence formulas designed by a veterinarian). She is certified in
cat behavior by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants,
Inc. (IAABC) and a member of the American Veterinary Society for Animal
Behavior (AVSAB).
Nutrition is of special concern to Dr. Hofve . She has researched pet food and
cats' unique nutritional needs since graduating from veterinary school. Jean
has written extensively for publications such as Animal Wellness Magazine,
DogWorld, Cats, The Whole Cat Journal, The Whole Dog Journal, and the Journal
of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. She has been
interviewed on radio and television from California to Colorado to England on
pet nutrition, supplements, and the commercial pet food industry. Dr. Hofve n
was an official liaison to the Association of American Feed Control Officials
(AAFCO) for two years, and continues to keep in touch with the latest
developments in pet food. She has also taught many classes and seminars on
flower essences, energy therapies such as E.F.T. - a powerful tool based on
acupuncture meridians - and other alternative treatments to pet guardians,
shelter personnel, veterinarians, and veterinary students at Colorado State
University and the University of California at Davis.
Jean currently lives in Jamestown, Colorado, with four fabulous felines: Flynn,
Puzzle, Sundance, and Spencer.
