Each carton contains three monthly applications that feature natural active ingredients such as peppermint oil, clove oil and lemon grass oil.

  • Just 3 active ingredients: Peppermint Oil, Clove Oil, Lemongrass Oil
  • Fresh mint scent

How Does Natural Defense Work?

Certain plants contain compounds that give them the ability to defend themselves against insects. Natural Defense is a blend of botanical extracts including peppermint oil, cinnamon oil and lemongrass oil. This combination of oils significantly enhances the pesticidal activity of Natural Defense. How? Octopamine!

Octopamine is a key neurotransmitter found in insects, it is the insect's equivalent of adrenaline. It regulates their heart rate, behavior and metabolism. The unique molecular structure targets and blocks octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in insects. Blocking octopamine results in a total breakdown of the insect's central nervous system. As mammals, fish and birds have no receptors for octopamine, the ingredients do not have this affect on them... or people!

Each box contains three 2.0 mL (0.07 fl oz) applicators

Suggested Use

Do not use on animals under the age of 12 weeks. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth. Do not bathe pet within the first 24 hours after squeeze-on has been applied. Households with more than one pet should not allow pets to groom each other until solution has dried. Pets may be treated indoors or outdoors. Safe to repeat application as often as needed. Apply contents of one tube as a spot or stripe, starting high on the back of your pet's neck to in front of the shoulder blades. In order to help reduce the occurrence of fleas and ticks, this product is best if used year around.

How to Apply

  • Remove product tube from package.
  • Holding tube with notched end pointing up and away from the face and body, cut or tear off the narrow end at the notches.
  • While holding the animal with one hand use the other to apply the solution.
  • Invert the tube, and use the narrow end to part the animal's hair while gently squeezing to apply to the animal's skin.
  • Hold the animal for a few seconds to give the solution time to be absorbed into the animal's coat.
  • When finished, wrap the tube in paper and put into the trash.

PLEASE NOTE

We have had some reports of reactions in cats such as skin irritation and hair loss at the site of application (see reviews below). In addition, the oils in the Sentry Natural Defense Squeeze-On may temporarily discolor white hair or fur. We recommend testing the product initially by applying a few drops in the area intended for application (nape of the neck), and wait 24 hours to evaluate any response before applying the full dose. If you do see an adverse reaction, wash your cat with a shampoo or dishwashing liquid that contains detergents, as this will be the most effective way to remove the oils causing the reaction.

While we understand that this product is not perfect since some cats do have an allergic reaction, we do believe it is far safer than the chemical pesticide based squeeze-on products. The long-term use of systemic chemical pesticides leads to far worse problems than a skin reaction (see The Natural Approach to Flea Control). The number of cats that have a reaction to the Sentry Squeeze-On is small, and for the majority of cats this product is safe and effective. We choose to continue to carry this product because we believe that providing a safer alternative to the chemical pesticide based squeeze-on products is an important service for those cat owners who prefer to use a squeeze-on flea protection program. Please follow our instructions for testing the product first for the safety of your cat.

Comments about Sentry Natural Defense Squeeze-On for Cats:

I opted for Sentry squeeze-on because I was at the end of my rope having applied conventional topicals to my collar-intolerant felines only to find them worse than useless. SSO did not leave my cats the walking flea magnets that conventional topicals left them as and did provide immediate relief besides the constant combing we took up with. It is a very messy and oily application which worsens rather than dries with time and this creates discomfort in days following the application, along with an ingredient like clove oil to which cats are very intolerant and may cause adverse reaction over a short time. SSO was less permanent and was washable after a period of days which contrasts with pesticide based alternatives. I have two squeeze-ons months after purchasing the four pack which are going unused.
For all the good most of these products convey I could have just as well hiked for a sachet of geranium and fleabane and said prayers hanging it over their den.

Comments about Sentry Natural Defense Squeeze-On for Cats:

I went on vacation, came home and realized a while later she had fleas. Cece is a indoor cat and has never had fleas. I a major infestion, had to fog our home and did flea baths, and went to the pet store to find what treatments were available and also budget friendly. This product I liked because it has essential oils, and was also a decent price. When I made the first application after a bath and cat had dried off, she freaked out and ran away and came running down the stairs looking like a rabbid cat foaming at the mouth. The smell didnt bother me because we use a lot of oils to do cleaning around the house. I was excited about this product, however, I find that I am impatient and wanted to see results quicker. So, I did another treatment a week later, but she didnt foam at the mouth this time, she was more calm, I do notice the porcupine effect others have referred to, and no reactions such as losing hair. She still has fleas, so will have to do a combination of flea combing and the treatment. fingers crossed it works!!

Comments about Sentry Natural Defense Squeeze-On for Cats:

I bought this treatment with some hesitation. I had heard horror stories about off brand flea and tick treatments, but felt that choosing an all natural remedy would be safe. I applied the treatment to both of my 1 year old cats and immediately regretted it. The intense smell alone was enough to make me concerned. My one cat was blinking and trying to clean the treatment off of her and was successfully reaching some of the area. This is when I decided to further research some more reviews. What I found was horrifying. Many people reported their pets experiencing skin irritation and hair loss. I immediately began trying to remove the oily treatment from their fur. In the end I had to stick them each under running water to be satisfied that I had gotten enough of it off. They both still smell of lemongrass and are traumatized and pretty angry with me.

I would SERIOUSLY consider spending the money on the good stuff, it is NOT WORTH the stress and worry I just experienced.

Highly recommended, it is not instant (and seriously if it kills fleas instantly it's probably not good for your pet!) It is slower acting if you have a flea infestation as it takes time for all those nasty little things to get to your precious pet. Keep it up every month and your fur baby will stay insect free! (and smell wonderful)

I was happy to find this since I only needed preventative care for my indoor-only cat. The smell was quite strong and it made my cat's hair super greasy. I shrugged it off until 2 days later I found clumps of hair everywhere. My cat now is completely bald where I applied this treatment. TERRIBLE! I feel so bad for her! It is also red like it has been itching.

This product is terrible. First it has a very foul smell which is intolerable. Then the quantity of the liquid is twice as much as other regular brands. But the worst thing is that it caused irritation on the application site. In only two days his skin lost a lot of hair, extremely irritated and red. I called the company, they could not possibly be more disrespectful, obnoxious and irresponsible. The supervisor "Susan" that I talked to confessed that she has had a lot of complaints about their products!!!

Comments about Sentry Natural Defense Squeeze-On for Cats:

I bought this for our indoor cat (7 years old) who likes to hang out in the garden with me on sunny days. I thought it would be perfect since there are no chemicals. The smell, however, is so overpowering that it made my cat gag, and it was so oily that she ended up rubbing the smell on wall corners, my pant legs, her beds and nap blankets, etc. The whole house smelled of this like I put out a potpourri. I tried to wipe as much as I could off the oily kitty mohawk it gave her, but it still took two days and applying a bit of corn starch to absorb the oils before I could wipe enough away to slightly tone down the smell.
I should say that I would like the smell if the clove and lemongrass scents weren't so strong. I wish it had more of the mint smell (but peppermint oil would irritate the skin too much).
Not sure what I will try next. I still have 3 applications of this left but if I use it again, I will likely apply it to the back of her collar, allow it to dry and then put it around her neck, and then supplement with regular flea combings. I do NOT recommend using the entire application tube on one cat. Maybe 1/4 would be tolerable but I will never use it full strength. I am not sure how effective it is on fleas because she didn't have fleas to begin with. This was more preventative. If I were a flea, I would stay away from the smell for sure. Hope this helps.
