I don't like to second guess our veterinarian about medications because I trust him explicitly... but the pills he prescribed for my dog who needed extra liver care were really expensive. The main ingredient is milk thistle and that is what my dog is getting with the pills from Only Natural Pet. My elderly black lab is on carprofen for arthritis. Carporfen can be hard on the liver so my vet suggested frequent blood tests to check liver function. On the first test the liver function was not very good and she was concerned. The vet told us our silky terrier had a few months to live...liver disease. His abdomen was filling up with fluid, that needed to be extracted, once a week. I am using this liver product to help my dog who survived a horrible strychnine poisoning. He almost died....He was placed on Phenobarb for the siezures which elevated his liver enzymes two fold. I'm sure the poison did its damage to his major organs but he is coming back to being himself. I am able to run with him again and he is bad to my happy go lucky dog. I am only 1/4 throught the bottle but I am confident that once we finish the supplement, he will improve more.

My 11 year old American Eskimo recently visited the vet and I was told her liver enzymes were low. She did seem very sluggish and sleeping all the time. She didn't seem herself. My dog had surgery to determine the cause of her liver problem. This was done by a junior vet. She biopsied the wrong tissue. Checkup after checkup showed no ALT liver count improvement. Our Vet recommended this product for our then 9 year old dachshund. Blood tests revealed elevated liver values which had been climbing slowly the previous year. When reaching the 'high end' of normal the Vet recommended Super Milk Thistle. Eyes, fur, and activity improvement returned over the next 9 months & liver levels went back down to 'normal'.

She gets 1 capsule/day (1/2 in AM & 1/2 in PM), which are very easy to pull apart & sprinkle on food. Although dachshunds eat anything, there is no hesitation about taste at all.

I would recommend a VET's supervision and regular blood test monitoring if using for liver disease. I would also recommend for injections, stress, etc.
