This grain-free dry diet is high in meat protein and low in carbohydrates, which is ideally suited to cat' ancestry and biology as natural carnivores. Since cats instinctively crave raw meat, they will choose it over grain when given a choice. Nature's Variety Raw Instinct, with its high concentration of animal protein, is consistent with the instinctive feline metabolism.

A rotational diet consisting of more meat and less grain fosters biologically appropriate weight control, and lean feeding leads to longer life. The natural results of higher quality nutrition include better skin and coat, healthier teeth and gums, increased energy, and less litter clean-up.

The protein in Nature's Variety Instinct is derived from meat primarily high quality chicken meal and menhaden fish meal. Highly digestible tapioca binds the other high quality ingredients together into a kibble. Tapioca is used because it's grain-free and gluten-free. This assures you that the protein in Instinct is primarily derived from meat. Fruit and vegetables are also added as natural sources of important vitamins. These high quality, wholesome ingredients are blended together with care to meet your pet's raw instinct for a grain-free, nutrient-dense diet. What you won't find in this revolutionary food are grains, glutens, or other grain fractions, potato or other inexpensive fillers, or chemical preservatives.

Ingredient Benefits

The proteins in Nature's Variety Instinct diets are derived from meat - primarily high quality chicken meal and menhaden fish meal. Highly digestible tapioca binds the other high quality ingredients together into a kibble. Nature's Variety uses tapioca because it is grain-free and gluten-free. This assures you that the proteins found in Instinct pet diets are primarily derived from meat.

Pumpkin seeds provide linoleic acid for skin and coat, Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, and are a natural source of fiber. Vegetable seeds, such as pumpkin seeds, are one of the densest sources of nutrition available. Alfalfa has unique nutritional benefits; its root system often penetrates the soil more than 20 feet deep, seeking out minerals in the subsoil that are not accessible to other plants. Chelated minerals are added to aid absorption in the digestive tract. ("Chelated" means firmly attached, usually to an amino acid or other organic component.) Montmorillonite clay is an additional source of trace minerals and has been shown to isolate toxins. Fruits and vegetables are also added as natural sources of important vitamins.

Instinct Grain-Free Nutrition for Cats is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profile for All Life Stages.

Comments about Nature's Variety Grain-Free Instinct Dry Cat Food:

I bought a bag of this food thinking it would be a nice upgrade for my two indoor boys. It ended up being a nightmare. First they didn't want anything to do with it, and when they did finally start eating it, it transformed their bowel movements into the foulest, nastiest diarrhea I've ever dealt with in my entire life as a cat owner. It was so bad, it would wake me up in the middle of the night when one of them used the box. And I would also immediately have to take them into the shower to wash off the fur around their bums so they didn't track the diarrhea all over the house. Every time they poo'd. The food itself had a nasty odor that filled the house along with lingering diarrhea smells.
As soon as I went back to a brand they'd had before, it all stopped almost overnight.

Comments about Nature's Variety Grain-Free Instinct Dry Cat Food:

I have stuck with the same store bought brand for years. The last cat I just rescued had chronic diarrhea. The Vet saw a parasite, so we took care of that problem. But then she still had diarrhea. I was giving her FortaFlora, it did great for getting her stool closer to normal. Still no change after 2 weeks. Then we confirmed it must be the food she was allergic to. The Vet recommened a rabbit and pea diet. I did research and found Nature's Variety. One person had mentioned chronic diarrhea in the reviews. I have mixed it half and half with the other food for transitioning over. My other 3 cats have no problems with it, even 2 of the 3 that has food issues themselves. So all 4 cats are doing AWESOME on this food. I am glad to see a natural food that is made in the USA and none of my cats have had issues after 2 weeks and still going strong.

Comments about Nature's Variety Grain-Free Instinct Dry Cat Food:

I have tried several natural, grain-free varities of dry cat food to satisfy my two cats (17 yrs and 2 yrs) and this is the first one that both of them ate readily. They passed right over their old food that I was trying to wean them off of, and ate all of this food the first day I put it out, so I knew it was a winner.

I bought this brand because one of my 4 babies developed an alergy to food. I tried this and am very pleased that her sysmtems have dissapered. We switched all 4 of our cats to it to make feeding easier and they are all doing great. It is pricey but saving on vet bills I guess it balances out. Wish it came in a larger bag or had a quanitie discount.

This product was recommended to me by a friend who has rescued 100's of cats as a help for diarrhea. It has worked for her every time but in my case I have a very unique issue with an older rescue cat who just will not gain weight & has chronic diarrhea. He loves this food & it's so full of good ingredients w/o irritants that it has improved his digestion I will continue to give it to him & search w/my vet for the real problem. I have recommended this food to others who have been pleased.

My two kitties are pretty spoiled and I do my research for their food. I like the ingredients in this food, they gobble it up, and their fur is soft and shiny and my girl cat is now at a healthier weight - I can't call her 'Porky-Butts' anymore! They have loads of energy, too. It's expensive, but so far they're getting a big thumbs up during vet checks.
