Natural Remedies for Cushing's Disease in Dogs
I have an 8 yr. old Schnauzer that was diagnosed with Cushings Disease 1 yr. ago (blood work & other blood test) Alk. phosphate was 1200 on the last test and all other liver levels were normal. His symptoms are still mild and the vet has suggested we hold off on the conventional treatment because it is so dangerous. Herbs sounds like a better avenue to pursue at this time. Any suggestions?
The first thing to address is diet. Nutrition is the cornerstone of health, so the better the diet, the better equipped the dog’s system is to resist disease and chronic health conditions. You may find the article on the Only Natural Pet Store website entitled What You Need to Know About Your Pet’s Food helpful.
There are a number of immune support supplements for auto-immune diseases that can be helpful in modulating the immune system of animals with autoimmune diseases. I almost always recommend Only Natural Pet Immune Balance. You can consider using this supplement along with other therapies suggested by a holistic veterinarian.
I highly recommend you seek the help of a holistic veterinarian in your area to help you with treating your dog with Cushing’s disease. There are holistic treatments available including homeopathy and Chinese herbs, but the prescription process is far more complicated than can be addressed via email. A more complete history and an examination by a holistic veterinarian would be the best course for your companion.
Here is a link to the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association referral directory. If there is not a holistic veterinarian within reasonable distance of your home, many of them do phone consultations.
